Online Garage Sale

We’ve all used sites like eBay and Kijiji to sell stuff we no longer want or need. Sometimes we experience success but to be honest, most of the time the things we have we can’t even give away.

I’m going to try something slightly different. Set up my own online shop of my stuff that I’d like to sell, a garage sale of sorts. The items will mainly be electronics and computer equipment, most of which are in impeccable condition (tech is a passion and I take care of my stuff). It’s an experiment, but an experiment that I’ll be able to run pretty much for as long as I like without fear of my listings suddenly getting lost or expiring.

I’ll be making use of the WordPress WooCommerce plug-in to run the shop and have different options for shipping and payment that you would expect to see implemented on web storefronts. Hell, you never know what will become of it in the long run, right? So it doesn’t hurt to try.

Stay tuned for updates as I’m hoping to have some initial stuff up soon.

NEEO Home Automation Remote

NEEO remote and brainNext Generation Home Automation Hub

One of my hobbies is home automation, and lately I’ve been on the look out for a new device to replace my aging Nevo Q50 remote. The Nevo line, unfortunately was discontinued a couple of years ago and the chances of finding another are slim to none. Then I found NEEO – The Thinking Remote.

After searching high and low, I came across a Kickstarter campaign for NEEO – The Thinking Remote. This device is aiming to be your home automation solution supporting all of the major HA protocols:  Bluetooth 4.0, Bluetooth BLE (low energy), Wi-Fi, 6LowPAN, ZigBee, Thread and Z-Wave protocols and these are right out of the box. They are also looking into support for RF433 which is used my LightwaveRF (popular in Europe). Of course, IR commands are there to control all of your consumer electronics as well via the Brain which is the part that ties everything together. There are too many other devices to possibly list here and the company is always adding more.

On paper, I feel that NEEO is leagues ahead of Logitech’s Harmony line of remotes and I have high hopes for it. All I ask that it not be like some other projects where promises are made during a campaign and suddenly pushed aside with no explanation (I won’t name any names).

NEEO Inc.’s  campaign was successfully funded with a total of $1,558,280.00 easily beating the $50,000 campaign goal and has some of the most active backers I’ve come across on Kickstarter. Their main website will soon have more details and you can pre-order the NEEO remote and brain at and if you were a Kickstarter backer, you are getting the best deal in town for this powerhouse in a little package.
